Pirates Conclude Day One of Draft With Well-Rounded Catcher Easton Carmichael

The Pittsburgh Pirates concluded the first day of the 2025 MLB Draft by taking catcher Easton Carmichael from the University of Oklahoma.
Carmichael, a native of Prosper, Texas, was named a First Team All-American by Perfect Game and College Baseball Foundation, a Second Team All-American by NCBWA and Third Team by Baseball America after a strong junior season.
The 21-year-old slashed .329/.398/.613 with 10 doubles, four triples, 17 home runs, 62 RBI and 14 stolen bases in 60 games and led the Sooners in most offensive categories.
Carmichael performed well with a wood bat in the Cape Cod League last summer, finishing with a .299/.372/.496 batting line with 10 doubles, five home runs, 23 RBI and a perfect 6 for 6 in stolen base attempts.
Carmichael possesses solid tools across the board and is regarded as a fine defensive catcher when it comes to receiving, athleticism and arm strength.
MLB Pipeline has Carmichael as their 93rd-best prospect available in this year’s draft.
The slot value attached to the 82nd pick is $979,500.
