Pittsburgh Pirates infield prospect Yordany De Los Santos has been named the Florida Complex League Player of the Month for May.

De Los Santos, who is ranked as the Pirates’ No. 16 prospect by MLB Pipeline, carried a .406 batting average during the month of May to go along with a .474 on-base percentage and a .565 slug. Additionally, he hit five doubles, a pair of home runs and swiped 13 bases in 16 attempts.

The 19-year-old is off to an excellent start this season after he scuffled once he was promoted to Low-A Bradenton last season. In 38 games with the Marauders in 2023, De Los Santos hit just .184 with a .578 OPS and five extra-base hits including one home run.

The native of the Dominican Republic was one of the Pirates’ top international signees in 2022, landing a $1.2 million bonus.

Pipeline notes how De Los Santos has exciting tools, including his raw hitting ability and a solid arm. Above his physical attributes, it’s his advanced feel for the game and high baseball IQ that really excites scouts who have seen him play.

The Pirates’ farm system is rich in pitching prospects but lacks higher-tier position players. If the FCL Player of the Month can build on his May showing, he would give the minor-league system a boost in an area of need.
