Tommy Pham Saves the Day in Pirates Walk-Off Win Over Yankees

PITTSBURGH — Tommy Pham snapped an 0-for-17 skid and delivered a 5-4 walk-off winner for the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 11th inning against the New York Yankees on Sunday afternoon at PNC Park.
Pham drove a ball off Devin Williams to deep left field over the head of Jasson Domínguez to score Jack Suwinski, who was the automatic runner at second base to begin the extra frame.
Pham’s heroics came after the Pirates (3-7) blew a three-run lead in the top of the ninth inning.
How We Got There
The Yankees (6-3) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning against Pirates starter Heaney but that was all their potent offense could muster against the left-hander.
Bryan Reynolds put the Pirates ahead 2-1 in the third inning with a two-run double off the fence in center field.
The Pirates scored twice more in the fourth to pad their lead. Tommy Pham recorded his first Pirates’ RBI on a sac fly to plate Enmanuel Valdez, who tripled. Isiah Kiner-Falefa then ripped an RBI double following an Adam Frazier two-out single.
The score remained there until the top of the ninth, when the Yankees rallied for three runs against Ryan Borucki, who was seeking his first big-league save.
Oswald Peraza brought the Yankees within two with a double to left and Trent Grisham evened the score with a base hit to right.
Key Moment
Caleb Ferguson and Joey Wentz (1-1) held the Yankees scoreless in both the 10th and 11th innings to keep the score tied at 4-all.
Star of the Game
Andrew Heaney allowed just one run in 7.0 innings pitched and struck out 10. He gave the Pirates the kind of start they needed. His efforts should have resulted in his first win of the season.

Up Next
The Pirates will play their first National League Central opponent on Monday night when the St. Louis Cardinals come to town. RHP Carmen Mlodzinski (0-1, 9.82 ERA) will be opposite LHP Matthew Liberatore (0-0, 4.50 ERA). First pitch: 6:40 p.m. ET.
Good win….exciting game…and the pitching was good except for the 9th….Borucki is one of my favorite relievers but he had a bad day. No prob, the team rallied and I hope that is the start of some good vibes.
6 man rotation, then?
That 1 hit will probably keep him in the lineup for another 2 weeks.
