Start of Spring Training Officially Delayed; MLB/MLBPA Set Next Meeting

Published

The inevitable has happened as Major League baseball has decided to postpone the start of spring training as the sport is still stuck in a lockout. The league says that all spring training games through March 5 have been postponed.

With no deal yet reached to end the lockout that has now been in place for two and a half months, the league finally made the call to postpone the start of game action in both the Grapefruit League and Cactus League. Spring training was supposed to get underway earlier this week.

Both the league and the union will meet again on Monday as the two sides look to reach an agreement to end the lockout and avoid postponing even more spring training games. As of now, Opening Day has not been postponed, but further delays would increase the likelihood of that.
