PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Pirates released left-handed reliever Ryan Borucki before Tuesday night’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays at PNC Park.

Borucki had been designated for assignment last Friday after going 1-3 with a 5.28 ERA in 35 games this season. The 31-year-old has a 15-12 record and 4.36 ERA in 183 career games (21 starts) over eight seasons with the Blue Jays (2018-22), Seattle Mariners (2022), and Pirates (2023-25).

Manager Don Kelly said right-hander Johan Oviedo will be recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis and start Wednesday afternoon against the Blue Jays in the finale of the three-game series. Oviedo has made one start for the Pirates this season, allowing two runs in one inning.

A corresponding roster move will be made before the game.

Two relievers, left-hander Tim Mayza and right-hander Justin Lawrence, were set to begin rehab assignments with Low-A Bradenton on Tuesday night. Mayza has been on the injured list since April 19 with a left shoulder lat muscle strain, and Lawrence has been out since April 23 because of right elbow inflammation.
