Potanko: Could Pirates Select Dark Horse Wyatt Langford No. 1 in 2023 MLB Draft? (+)
The Pittsburgh Pirates have been awarded the number one overall pick in 2023. Currently, LSU outfielder Dylan Crews is the obvious choice, but another college outfielder may thrust himself into the conversation.
Wyatt Langford is a 6 foot 1, 225-pound outfielder from the University of Florida. Lanford thrust himself into the spotlight during the 2022 season, with the Gators recording a slash line of .356/.447/.719 with an OPS of 1.166 in 256 at-bats.
Prospects Live categorized Langford as a “premium power bat with easy plus raw power to all fields.” Their scouting report also highlighted his legs as “average,” but his instincts and burst helped Langford in that area.
Langford is a very versatile defender, spending time in all three outfield spots, corner infielder, and even as a catcher during his time in college. Teams will likely want to put him in left field, as he has the most experience there, with 67 games under his belt during the ’22 season.
