On Ben Cherrington’s radio show, he had this to say about Wilson, “He’s feeling the effects of the season. We want him to have every chance to finish the season with us, so we figured we’d give him a blow.” Wilson indeed didn’t look himself in his last start, where he gave up seven hits, four earned runs, all in just 4.0 innings pitched.
Ben Cherington seemed hopeful that Wilson will be back before the season is out, and this move is nothing more than giving a younger guy some rest and a chance to reset and recharge the battery. In his short time with the Pirates, Wilson has proven he could be a part of this rotation for a little while and be that 3rd or 4th starter.
