The clock is ticking for general manager Ben Cherington and the Pittsburgh Pirates — and the rest of the league, for that matter.

The MLB trade deadline is only five days away. Once 6 p.m. ET rolls around on Tuesday, that’s it.

For the first time in a while, the Pirates approach the trade deadline in position to strike. Entering Thursday’s slate of games, the Pirates are in third place in the National League Central and a game out of a wild card spot.
