Pirates Top 30 Prospects No. 20: Speedster Mitch Jebb Getting More Time in Outfield

This is one in a series of stories breaking down PBN’s Top 30 Pittsburgh Pirates prospects.
Mitch Jebb joined the Pirates’ organization as a second-round pick out of Michigan State University in 2023.
His first taste of professional baseball came shortly after signing for $1,657,500 with the Low-A Bradenton Marauders, where the Michigan-native found immediate success.
Jebb played 34 games with the Marauders in 2023 and slashed .297/.382/.398 with six doubles, two triples, one home run, 13 RBI while going 11 for 12 in stolen base attempts.
The Pirates bumped Jebb up to High-A Greensboro for the 2024 season, where he spent the entire year and totaled 113 games. There were some ups and downs for the second-year player. Jebb was twice named the South Atlantic League Player of the Week — once in June and again in July.
In total, Jebb finished the 2024 season with a .253/.341/.355 with 12 doubles, seven triples, six home runs, 42 RBI and 43 stolen bases — which were tied for fifth in the league. He was a tick below-average player based on his 99 wRC+.
Jebb once again found himself promoted to start the 2025 season. The 23-year-old played 122 games with the Double-A Altoona Curve and slashed .265/.350/.317 with 11 doubles, six triples, 34 RBI and 33 stolen bases. He did not hit a home run.
In addition to doing his part on the field, Jebb helped keep the vibes high in the Curve’s clubhouse after wins by serving as the team DJ. I saw it in person when I traveled to Altoona for Konnor Griffin’s debut. It was a sight to see.
Jebb doesn’t strike out much. His career 13.9% strikeout rate is in a good spot, as is his 11.3% walk rate. But his lack of power limits his upside.
Instead, Jebb will rely on his speed and defense to help try and carry him to the big leagues. For his career, Jebb has gone 87 for 101 (86.1%) in stolen base attempts.
Defensively, Jebb has spent his professional career up the middle with 101 games at second base, 95 games in center field and 53 games at shortstop. He’s spending more and more time in center, a position he played 85 times this year.
Given his athleticism, center field makes sense going forward. And it’s his athleticism that is his most appealing attribute.
