Five Pirates Land on MLB Pipeline’s Top 100 Prospects List; Konnor Griffin No. 1

Five Pittsburgh Pirates’ prospects landed on MLB Pipeline’s top 100 prospects list and shortstop Konnor Griffin is at the top.
Griffin, the Pirates’ first-round draft pick in 2024, won the organization’s Honus Wagner award as the top minor-league player after slashing .333/.415/.527 with 23 doubles, four triples, 21 home runs, 94 RBI and 65 steals in 122 games across three levels. The 19-year-old also took home a minor-league Gold Glove award at shortstop.
The other four prospects who cracked the top 100 are right-handers Bubba Chandler (No. 11) and Seth Hernandez (No. 29), outfielder Edward Florentino (No 50) and left-handed pitcher Hunter Barco (No. 96).
Chandler made his MLB debut with the Pirates in 2025 and went 4-1 with a 4.02 ERA, 31 strikeouts and only four walks in 31.1 innings across seven appearances/four starts. The expectation is that Chandler will be in Pittsburgh’s starting rotation full-time this season.
Hernandez was selected by the Pirates with the sixth pick in last year’s draft out of Corona High School in California. He was named the 2025 Gatorade National Baseball Player of the Year after going 9-1 with a 0.39 ERA and 105 strikeouts in 53.1 innings as a senior.
Florentino split the season between the Florida Complex League and Low-A Bradenton and combined for a .290/.400/.548 batting line with 23 doubles, two triples, 16 home runs, 59 RBI and 35 stolen bases in a career-high 83 games.
Barco spent most of the season with Triple-A Indianapolis after a historic start to the year with Double-A Altoona. In 21 appearances with the Indians, the 25-year-old went 3-1 with a 3.79 ERA and 82 strikeouts in 73.2 innings.
The Pirates promoted Barco to the big leagues at the end of the season and he made a pair of scoreless appearances.
