Pirates Prospect Watch: Suwinski Homers off an Old Friend, Marcano Stays Hot

Friday night, several Pirates prospects showed off with extremely encouraging performances, including Hudson Head, Travis Swaggerty and Tyler Samaniego. Let’s head on down to the farm and see which Pirates prospects stood out Saturday night.

Indianapolis Indians

INF Tucupita Marcano

  • Game: 3-5 with three singles
  • Season: .310/.412/.471 with 18 RBIs and 17 extra-base hits

OF Jack Suwinski

  • Game: 3-5 with two RBIs, a double, and a homer
  • Season in the Minors: .303/.367/.652 with 22 RBIs and 17 extra-base hits

Indianapolis fell to Toledo 6-5. Suwinski hit a homer off of old former Pirates left-handed reliever Sam Howard in the ninth inning, and Marcano extended his hitting streak to nine games.

Altoona Curve

RHP Quinn Priester

  • Game: 6.1 innings pitched, seven hits, two earned runs, two walks, and four strikeouts
  • Season: 2.75 ERA, ten walks, 37 strikeouts, and 39.1 innings pitched

C/DH/OF Blake Sabol

  • Game: 3-5 with a double
  • Season: .265/.341/.470 with 47 RBIs and 31 extra-base hits

In a very low-scoring game, Altoona fell to the Akron Rubberducks 2-1 Saturday night. The story of the night was Priester going into the seventh inning with 88 pitches, despite allowing nine base runners. Power threat Sabol also had an impressive night with three hits.

Greensboro Grasshoppers

C/1B Abrahan Gutierrez

  • Game: 1-3 with a three-run home run
  • Season: .259/.361/.409 with 43 RBIs and 23 extra-base hits

C/INF/OF Endy Rodriguez

  • Game: 2-4 with a stolen base
  • Season: .297/.389/.537 with 53 RBIs and 39 extra-base hits.

Greensboro defeated the the Winston-Salem Dash 7-3 behind a Gutierrez three-run bomb and a strong bullpen performance from Christian Charle, who pitched three shutout innings.

Bradenton Marauders

INF Tsung-Che Cheng

  • Game: 1-2 with an RBI and a stolen base
  • Season: .240/.329/.374 with 34 RBIs and 22 extra-base hits

DH Bubba Chandler

  • Game: 2-4 with an RBI double
  • Season: .250/.369/.439 with 13 RBIs and seven extra-base hits

Bradenton defeated Lakeland 3-2 after an impressive performance from two-way sensation Bubba Chandler, and five shutout innings between Mitchell Miller (two innings) and Johan Montero (three innings). Miller and Montero combined for three strikeouts, one hit, and no walks.
