Pirates Prospect Watch: Altoona’s Season Comes to a Close

Double-A Altoona’s regular season came to a close on Sunday as the Curve finished the regular season with a record of 71-66 after losing their final game, 9-8 to the Reading Fightin’ Phils.



Despite the loss, the Curve received strong performances from a handful of the Pirates’ more highly regarded prospects.

At Triple-A Indianapolis, Blake Sabol continues to open eyes with an impressive stretch at the plate.

Here are the performers of note from Sunday’s action.

Indianapolis Indians (70-70)

C Carter Bins

  • Game: 2 for 3 with a triple, a double, an RBI a run and a walk
  • Season: .214/.303/.415, 13 doubles, two triples, 10 home runs, 32 RBIs, 68 games

LF Blake Sabol

  • Game: 2 for 4 with a double and a run
  • Season: .328/.451/.621, three doubles, one triple, four home runs, 12 RBIs, 17 games

Bins had a big game at the plate but it was all for not as the Indians fell to the Toledo Mud Hens 7-4.

Sabol continued his hot start since being promoted to Triple-A. Hoy Park drove in a pair of runs for the Indians.

Altoona Curve (71-66)

LF Fabricio Macias

  • Game: 1 for 4 with a home run, three RBIs, a run and a walk
  • Season: .255/.280/.409, 11 doubles, four home runs, 25 RBIs, five steals, 41 games

RF Matt Fraizer

  • Game: 2 for 3 with a double, an RBI, a run, a steal and a walk
  • Season: .219/.284/.333, 18 doubles, seven triples, six home runs, 44 RBIs, 18 steals, 116 games

Macias went deep and Fraizer filled up the stat sheet for Altoona, but the Curve came up a run short. Nick Gonzales tripled and was on base twice while Henry Davis hit his eighth double of the season.
