Pirates Promote Top Pitching Prospect Seth Hernandez

The Pittsburgh Pirates have promoted top pitching prospect Seth Hernandez to High-A Greensboro, a source confirmed to Pittsburgh Baseball Now.
Hernandez, the Pirates’ first-round selection in the 2025 draft, made six starts with Low-A Bradenton and went 3-0 with a 0.96 ERA. In 28 innings, he allowed only 13 hits, walked seven and struck out 50. The right-hander led the Florida State League in ERA, strikeouts, WHIP (0.714) and batting average against (.135).
In his last start on Friday, Hernandez tossed six-scoreless innings, allowed three hits, walked one and struck out nine against the Dunedin Blue Jays.
The 19-year-old is considered the Pirates’ No. 2 prospect behind shortstop Konnor Griffin and is ranked 19th overall, according to MLB Pipeline.
Hernandez was selected by the Pirates out of high school with the sixth pick in last year’s draft. As a draft prospect, he was considered the top prep pitcher in the class.
