The Pittsburgh Pirates have reinstated catcher Joey Bart (left hamstring strain) from the 10-day injured list. In a corresponding move, outfielder Billy McKinney was designated for assignment.

Bart has appeared in 63 games since the Pirates acquired him early in the season. He’s experienced a breakout season with a .272/.342/.497, 12 home runs and 39 RBIs.

He’s appeared in 53 games behind the plate this year and has a .995 fielding percentage and has caught 22% of attempted base stealers.

With Bart back in the fold, the Pirates now have three catchers on their active roster alongside Henry Davis and Yasmani Grandal.

McKinney appeared in 10 games after he was selected from Triple-A Indianapolis at the end of last month. The 30-year-old hit .200 with a .526 OPS, one double and a pair of RBIs. The Pirates acquired him from the New York Yankees in a trade during the offseason.

The Pirates’ 40-man roster is at 38 players.
