Rawlings Baseball announced the 2025 Gold Glove finalists and the Pittsburgh Pirates have two players with a chance to take home the honor.

Jared Triolo is hoping to make it two-straight as a finalist for the National League utility player and Tommy Pham is one of three finalists in left field.

Does either player have a chance to hear his name when the winners are announced? Let’s take a look.

Jared Triolo (utility)

It was yet another strong defensive season for Triolo, who won his first-career Gold Glove last year. The utility Gold Glove was introduced first in 2022 and no player in either league has won it twice.

This year, Triolo is one of three finalists along with Miguel Rojas of the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Miami Marlins’ Javier Sanoja.

Triolo totaled 47 games at shortstop in 2025, 32 games at third base, 24 at first base and 11 at second base. He didn’t commit an error in his 35 games on the right side of the infield and combined for a .969 fielding percentage between shortstop and third base.

Combined between the four positions, Triolo was responsible for nine defensive runs saved. Despite playing just 260.1 innings at the hot corner this year, Triolo ranked third in the National League with seven DRS at the position.

Like Triolo, Rojas bounced around the infield, appearing in 68 games at second base, 23 games at third, 22 games at short and one game at first base. In total, Rojas committed four errors on the season and owned a .986 fielding percentage. He totaled seven DRS — five at second base and two at third.

Sanoja played just about everywhere in his first extended season in the big leagues — even eight games at pitcher. He appeared in 10 or more games at shortstop, second, third and in left and center field and played once game at first base. He was plus-five in DRS at second base, plus-four at third base and minus-two in left field, finishing the season with seven DRS.

Despite bouncing around the diamond, Sanoja committed only three errors on the season in 269 chances.

Tommy Pham (left field)

Pham, meanwhile, played 115 games in left field for the Pirates and recorded six assists, a .986 fielding percentage and five defensive runs saved.

But the advanced fielding metrics don’t favor Pham’s defense as much. The veteran was in the 23rd-percentile with minus-three outs above average and ranked in the 32nd-percentile in arm value.

The other two finalists alongside Pham are Pittsburgh-native and the Chicago Cubs’ Ian Happ and Kyle Stowers of the Miami Marlins.

Happ is looking to make it a fourth-straight Gold Glove after another strong defensive season. In 146 games in left field for the Cubs this year, Happ led baseball with a .997 fielding percentage and posted nine DRS with five outfield assists.

The 31-year-old was league-average with zero outs above average and his arm value was in the 62nd-percentile.

Stowers spent time in all three outfield spots in his breakout season with the Marlins, 76 of which came in left field. The 27-year-old committed just one error, had five outfield assists and two DRS in his time in left. He possesses one of the stronger arms among the league’s outfielders, but like Pham, had minus-three OAA.

Predictions

The utility award looks like a pretty tight race between all three. To be honest, I think fellow Marlins’ infielder Otto Lopez had a stronger case than any of the finalists to win, but he for some reason was not even a finalist.

Taking into account some of the advanced metrics, I’ll give the nod to Triolo.

In left field, while Pham deserves credit for improving his defense, especially given he did so at 37 years old and manned the largest left field in baseball, Happ will make it four-straight Gold Gloves pretty easily.
