Pirates Free Agent Fit Eugenio Suárez Lands in NL Central

Two-time All-Star Eugenio Suárez will be playing in the National League Central next season but it won’t be for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Suárez and the Cincinnati Reds have reached agreement on a one-year $15 million deal for 2026, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan. The deal also includes a mutual option for 2027.
Suárez had been linked to the Pittsburgh Pirates at various points this offseason as a potential fit at third base and a powerful lineup addition. Suárez totaled 159 games between the Arizona Diamondbacks and Seattle Mariners last season and slashed .228/.298/.526 with 49 home runs and 118 RBI and was named an All-Star.
This will be the 34-year-old’s second stint in Cincinnati. Suárez totaled 916 games for the Reds across seven seasons from 2015-21. In 12 seasons combined between four teams, Suárez carries a .246/.328/.464 batting line with 325 home runs and 949 RBI.
The Pirates are still seeking another addition to their position player mix before Opening Day.

Well that stinks, I thought he would be a great fit with his right handed power. Now Ben has to get creative and make a trade for a decent third baseman. I don’t want to see Triolo as the regular third baseman.
Damn Pirates, that was your deal you let slip away, a one year bargain.
Get serious and go get Brett Baty of mets
Wow. He played seven seasons in Cincy?$ (Insert your own tongue twister here.)
He was the best of a poor free agent crop — the players at least Pirates’ ownership was willing to pony up.
Would have very much lengthen the lineup and provided a power threat, but his flaws are many too.
Just feel the Buccaneers are one established bat from legitimately.
Beg the typo below. Legitimatecy.
Another swing and a miss…like 80% of that batting order.
They should sign andujar and platoon him and trielo
Andujar might work. But how do you platoon 2 right-handed hitters? If we had a lead in the 7th, Triolo would be in.
Thank goodness we didn’t sign this guy – bad third-baseman, strikes out 200 times a year, and his so called ‘power’ was greatly amplified in Arizona (24 HR at home, 12 on the road). Whew!
