Pirates Draft Signings: Comp Pick Levi Sterling Headlines Three More Deals
The Pittsburgh Pirates have announced three more signings from their 2024 draft class, including right-handed pitcher Levi Sterling.
Sterling was selected by the Pirates with the 37th pick in the Compensation Round A out of Notre Dame High School in California. MLB Pipeline rated him as the 58th-best prospect in this year’s draft after a strong senior season in high school in which he posted a 2.61 ERA and hit .319 at the plate.
The 17-year-old was one of the youngest draft-eligible prospect in 2024. He features a plus-curveball with an above-average fastball and slider as well as a developing changeup.
Sterling was teammates with Pirates first-rounder Konnor Griffin Team USA in the Under-18 Baseball World Cup in Taiwan this past November. The Pirates still have yet to sign Griffin.
In addition to Sterling, the Pirates signed 14th-rounder Ian Farrow, an outfielder from Florida Gulf Cost and 15th-round pick Ethan Lege, a third baseman out of the University of Mississippi.
Farrow took home the American Baseball Coaches Association second-team All-American honors in 2024 and was an Atlantic Sun Conference first-team selection. The 21-year-old .375 with a 1.254 OPS, 17 doubles, 15 homers and 44 RBIs this past season.
Lege led Ole Miss with a .323 batting average to go along with a .424 on-base percentage and a .645 slug in 43 games. He whacked 13 homers and drove in 38 runs.
The Pirates have now signed 10 of their 21 selections in this year’s draft. The deadline to sign their remaining draft picks is Aug. 1.
