The long-awaited corresponding move for Andrew McCutchen has been made. The Pittsburgh Pirates have DFAd Miguel Andujar in order to make room for McCutchen on the 40-man roster.

According to the team, McCutchen’s one-year $5 million contract became official Friday morning.

Andujar was claimed off waivers from the New York Yankees on Sept. 25 during the 2022 season. Andujar managed a .250/.275/.389 slash line in 36 at-bats with the Pirates.

Pirates general manager Ben Cherington doesn’t seem to be afraid to pull the trigger on one of “his guys” getting the axe as of late.

With the 40-man roster now at 40, it would seem the Pirates are done making moves for now, but it wouldn’t be shocking if the Pirates pulled one of their classic waiver pickups in the near future.

The McCutchen press conference will be held Friday afternoon at 3:30 p.m., where we will have our very own Danny Demilio covering.
