Pirates Activate JT Brubaker Off IL, Option Roansy Contreras to Triple-A
Prior to Tuesday night’s game against the St. Louis Cardinals, the Pittsburgh Pirates have activated right-handed pitcher JT Brubaker off the 15-day injured list.
Brubaker’ will get the start for the Pirates at PNC Park, though he will be on a pitch limit, according to manager Derek Shelton.
In a corresponding move, the Pirates have optioned right-hander Roansy Contreras to Triple-A Indianapolis.
Brubaker was placed on the IL by the Pirates on Sept. 16 with right arm inflammation.
On the year, Brubaker is 3-12 with a 4.58 ERA/3.94 FIP. He’s made 27 starts and has tossed 141.1 innings, both of which are career-highs.
The 28-year-old right-hander leads the club with 145 strikeouts on the season.
Contreras’ season ended on Sunday in his last start of the year against the Cardinals, so the move is more or less a procedural one.
On the year, Contreras went 5-5 with a 3.79 ERA in 21 games/18 starts.
Additionally, the Bucs have recalled utility man Tucupita Marcano from Triple-A and have optioned catcher Jose Godoy to Indianapolis.
In 48 games with the Pirates this season, Marcano has hit .201 with a .553 OPS. The 23-year-old has connected on a pair of homers and has driven in 13.
Godoy appeared in eight games with Pittsburgh. He collected one hit in 17 at-bats on the year.
