Pirates Activate Bryan De La Cruz, Place Joshua Palacios on IL
After trading for outfielder Bryan De La Cruz on Tuesday, the Pittsburgh Pirates have added him to the active roster ahead of Wednesday’s game against the Houston Astros.
The Pirates acquired De La Cruz from the Miami Marlins in exchange for minor-leaguers Jun-Seok Shim and Garret Forester.
De La Cruz appeared in 105 games with the Marlins this season and posted a .245/.289/.417 batting line. The 27-year-old hit 19 doubles, slugged 18 home runs and drove in 51 runs. In 431 career games, De La Cruz has hit .258 with a .724 OPS, 78 double, 55 homers and 191 RBIs.
De La Cruz is batting fourth and playing right field in his Pirates’ debut. He will wear No. 41.
To make room for De La Cruz on the roster, the Pirates placed outfielder Joshua Palacios on the 10-day injured list with a left hamstring strain. Palacios left Monday’s game against the Houston Astros shortly after getting injured while running to first base on a ground ball.
Palacios has played in 20 games for the Pirates this season after he was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis on July 4. He’s slashed .230/.319/.344 with a pair of home runs and seven RBIs on the year.
