Pirates Recap: Bart Goes Boom, Chandler Takes Loss
Joey Bart provided all the offense the Pittsburgh Pirates managed under the lights against the New York Yankees in their 12-3 loss on Monday.
Bart recorded two of the Pirates’ three hits in the game and drove in all three runs with one big swing in the third inning.
The Pirates’ catcher connected on a first-pitch fastball from left-hander Ryan Anderson and sent it 404 feet over the fence in left field to tie the game 3-3.

It marked Bart’s second hit of the spring and gives him five RBIs through his first four games — a total of 12 plate appearances.
Bart broke out for the Pirates last season after he was picked up in an early-season trade from the San Francisco Giants. In 80 games, he slashed .265/.337/.462 with 13 home runs and 45 RBIs. He will in all likelihood be the starting catcher on Opening Day in Miami later this month.
Pirates Top Prospect Struggles
Bubba Chandler took the loss for the Pirates after a rough showing out of the bullpen.
Chandler was tasked with the fifth inning but was pulled after recording just one out. The right-hander walked a pair of batters, allowed two hits and was charged with four earned runs. His lone out was a strikeout of Oswald Peraza to begin his outing.
It was the third appearance for Chandler this spring. Combined between the first two, he allowed one run in two innings and struck out three batters.

On Tuesday afternoon, the Pirates (6-4) will host the Boston Red Sox at LECOM Park.
My goodness, is Triolo bad at the plate. Awful swing. But I’m sure he’ll make the team. They are not going to send a gold glover to AAA.
You can see it coming- Adam Frazier is going to take Nick Yorke’s roster spot. And that will suck.
Liover Peguero is another player whose stock has fallen off a cliff for me. He looks awful in the field and at the plate this spring, and looks like he has gained some weight.
Well, since our FO won’t give Peggy much of a chance EVER then does it really matter if he’s thicker or not? And yeah, Frazier is making the team.
