Pirates Trade Rumors: Regular Contact With Yankees, Several Players of Interest

Ke'Bryan Hayes, Pittsburgh Pirates, Pirates trade rumors

The trade deadline is 11 days away, and the Pittsburgh Pirates and New York Yankees have been in regular contact, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post.

The Pirates and Yankees are logical trade partners, given where both teams are in the standings and the needs New York has on its roster.

Bullpen help is said to be the main target for the Yankees leading up to the deadline, and they could have interest in several Pirates’ relievers, including David Bednar, Dennis Santana and Caleb Ferguson.

All three have been effective this season. Bednar has bounced back after a rough 2024 and a poor start to the season, Santana has been good all year and Ferguson has been reliable for the most part, other than a rough outing in Saturday’s loss to the Chicago White Sox.

If the Yankees look to add to their starting rotation, the Pirates have at least two potential matches. Mitch Keller is one of the top starting pitchers available this month, given his performance and his contractual control. Andrew Heaney could be a fallback option if they aren’t able to make a more impactful addition.

Additionally, the Yankees will likely try and add to their infield, particularly at third base. The Pirates have Ke’Bryan Hayes and Isiah Kiner-Falefa available on the market. Kiner-Falefa spent two seasons in New York from 2022-23.
