Austin Brice Pittsburgh Pirates

The Pirates announced that they have selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Austin Brice from Triple-A Indianapolis and have designated fellow right-hander Jerad Eickhoff for assignment. Brice will wear No. 70 with the Bucs.

Brice, 30, was signed as a minor league free agent this past offseason. With Indianapolis, he totaled 26.2 innings over 24 relief appearances and recorded five saves. He posted a 3.04 ERA with 31 strikeouts and 11 walks on the year.

For his Major League career, Brice has appeared in 140 games between the Marlins, Red Sox and Reds. He owns a 5.17 ERA/5.15 FIP and 155 strikeouts in 162 innings.

Eickhoff made only one start with the Pirates. It was a rough one for the righty as he was charged with 10 earned runs over 4.1 innings in Wednesday’s loss to the Cubs.
