Pirates Roster Moves: Nick Gonzales Returns From Injury

The Pittsburgh Pirates will be getting a boost to their lineup as infielder Nick Gonzales has been reinstated from the 60-day injured list. Gonzales was placed on the IL with a non-displaced left ankle fracture after exiting early on Opening Day.
Gonzales homered in the opener but limped around the bases prior to his premature exit. Last season with the Pirates, he hit .270 with a .709 OPS, 19 doubles, three triples, seven home runs, 49 RBI and five steals in 94 games.
In nine games on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Indianapolis, Gonzales went 7 for 36 with one triple and one RBI.
To make room for Gonzales on the 40- and 26-man rosters, infielder/outfielder Nick Solak had his contract assigned outright to Indianapolis. Solak appeared in four games with the Pirates and went 1 for 11. In 32 games at Triple-A to start the season, the 30-year-old hit .393 with a 1.077 OPS.
Additionally, the Pirates recalled right-handed reliever Kyle Nicolas from Indianapolis. Nicolas made seven appearances with the Pirates earlier this season and allowed nine runs in 7.2 innings.
In 13 appearance at Triple-A, Nicolas went 1-0 with a 4.40 ERA and a pair of saves.
The Pirates had room in the bullpen after fellow right-hander Tanner Rainey was designated for assignment on Monday.
