The Pittsburgh Pirates are getting catcher Joey Bart back. Bart, who was placed on the 7-day concussion injured list on May 28, has been reinstated ahead of Tuesday’s series opener against the Tigers.

Bart totaled 44 games with the Pirates this season prior to his concussion and compiled a .240/.347/.308 batting line with five doubles, one triple, one home run and 11 RBI. He was behind the plate in 38 of those games and recorded a .996 fielding percentage and an 18.2% caught stealing rate.

The backstop appeared in five rehab games with Triple-A Indianapolis and hit .231 (3 for 13) with a pair of RBI and four walks.

The Pirates acquired Bart at the beginning of last season and he’s since served as the Pirates’ primary catcher when healthy.

In addition to reinstating Bart from the injured list, the Pirates made two roster moves on Monday.

Catcher Brett Sullivan was designated for assignment. Sullivan played in three games for the Pirates after replacing Bart on the active roster and went 1 for 6 with two RBI and a run scored.

Sullivan was DFA’d to make room on the active roster for Bart and to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for right-handed relief pitcher Dauri Moreta. The Pirates reinstated Moreta from the 60-day injured list (Tommy John surgery) and optioned him to Indianapolis.

Moreta made 16 appearances at Triple-A on his rehab assignment and posted a 3.07 ERA with 12 walks and 20 strikeouts in 14.2 innings.

He last pitched for the Pirates in 2023, when he went 5-2 with a 3.72 ERA, one save and 76 strikeouts in 58.0 innings across 55 appearances.
