Pirates Roster Moves: Evan Sisk, Colin Holderman Join Bullpen

The Pittsburgh Pirates have recalled left-handed pitcher Evan Sisk from Triple-A Indianapolis ahead of Friday’s game against the Chicago Cubs. Sisk was one of two players acquired from the Kansas City Royals in the deadline deal for left-hander Bailey Falter.
Sisk made his MLB debut earlier this season and allowed one run in 5.1 innings with five walks and 11 strikeouts across five appearances. The 28-year-old has spent the bulk of the season in Triple-A, where he has a 4.76 ERA in 36 appearances between Omaha and Indianapolis. In 34 innings, he’s allowed 43 hits, walked 14 and struck out 41.
The left-hander has bounced around four different organizations after he was drafted int he 16th round by the St. Louis Cardinals in 2018. In seven minor-league seasons, he owns a 3.33 ERA with 420 strikeouts in 360 innings.
Sisk isn’t the only bullpen reinforcement the Pirates are adding on Tuesday. They’ve also recalled right-hander Colin Holderman.
Injuries and poor performance limited Holderman to 14 appearances with the Pirates this season, and he went 0-1 with a 9.00 ERA prior to getting optioned on June 7. In 16 appearances with Indianapolis on the season, Holderman posted a 5.71 ERA with 23 strikeouts in 17.1 innings.
Last season with the Pirates, Holderman went 3-6 with a 3.16 ERA across 55 appearances.
Sisk and Holderman take the spots of left-hander Ryan Borucki, who was designated for assignment, and right-hander Cam Sanders, who was optioned to Indianapolis.
Borucki posted a 5.28 ERA in 35 appearances with the Pirates on the season. In 87 appearances with Pittsburgh from 2023-25, the 31-year-old went 5-3 with a 4.17 ERA.
Sanders made his MLB debut during the Pirates’ last homestand. He started his big-league career with three straight scoreless appearances before getting tagged for five runs against the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday. In five appearances with the Pirates, the 28-year-old allowed five runs on seven hits with four walks and four strikeouts.
Combined between Double-A Altoona and Indianapolis this season, Sanders is 4-1 with a 1.91 ERA and 11 saves.
