The Pirates moved right-handed pitcher Daulton Jefferies to the 15-day Injured List due to right elbow inflammation on Saturday, July 6. In a corresponding move, they recalled right-hander Ryder Ryan to fill his spot.

Pittsburgh acquired Jefferies from the San Francisco Giants in exchange for High-A outfielder Rodolfo Nolasco in early May. The 28-year-old pitched to a 6.30 ERA in four appearances, striking out eight batters in the process. He last appeared in Friday night’s win over the New York Mets, closing the book on the 14-2 win with two scoreless innings in relief.

Ryan, meanwhile, has bounced back and forth between Triple-A Indianapolis and the big league squad this season, putting together a 3.46 ERA in 13 innings (11 appearances). Despite being a capable option when called upon, the Pirates have shuffled their bullpen around quite a bit this year, giving a handful of different relievers an opportunity to try their hand in the majors.
