Pirates Roster Moves: Canario Added, Bae Optioned, Delay Traded

The Pittsburgh Pirates made a series of roster moves prior to Friday’s home opener against the New York Yankees.
Outfielder Alexander Canario has been added to the active roster. Canario was acquired from the New York Mets on March 31.
The 24-year-old totaled 21 games with the Chicago Cubs from 2023-24, where he slashed .286/.333/.524 with two doubles, a triple, two home runs and eight RBIs in 45 plate appearances.
Canario had a strong spring with the Mets prior to being designated for assignment. In 17 games, he hit .306/.419/.611 with two doubles, three home runs and eight RBIs.
He will wear No. 29 for Pittsburgh.
To make room on the 26-man roster, infielder/outfielder Ji Hwan Bae was optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis. Bae appeared in two games for the Pirates this season and went hitless in four at-bats. Last year, the 25-year-old hit .189 with a .463 OPS in 29 games.
Additionally, catcher Jason Delay, who had been designated for assignment on Apr. 1, has been traded to the Atlanta Braves for cash considerations.
Delay, the Pirates’ fourth-round draft pick in 2017, spent parts of the last three seasons with the Pirates. In 134 games, he hit .231 with a .610 OPS and posted four defensive runs saved in 131 games behind the plate.
The Pirates’ 40-man roster is full.
