Pirates Reinstate Daniel Vogelbach; Place Josh VanMeter on IL

The Pirates announced that they have reinstated Daniel Vogelbach from the 10-day injured list and have placed Josh VanMeter on the 10-day injured list with a fracture of the left ring finger. VanMeter’s injury designation comes with a retro to June 2.

Vogelbach is back after spending the minimum 10 days on the injured list, and the Pirates had been optimistic that he would return from the injury sooner rather than later. Vogelbach was in the midst of a strong season prior to landing on the shelf. In 34 games, Vogelbach posted a .778 OPS with six homers and 14 runs driven in.

The left slugger is back in the Pirates lineup for Friday’s game against Arizona, batting third and at his usual designated hitter spot.

It’s a tough blow for VanMeter, who had been heating up at the plate for the Bucs. He had hits in eight of his last 10 games, and had reached base safely in nine of those contests. Over that stretch, VanMeter hit .333 with a .912 OPS and five runs driven in.
