Shea Spitzbarth has been recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis and will join the Pirates’ bullpen for the final series of the season. In a corrsponding move, Miguel Yajure has been optioned to Triple-A.
Spitzbarth has appeared in four games at the big league level for the Pirates in 2021. He’s given up a pair of runs on four hits, a pair of walks and struck out one. Taken by the Pirates in the minor league phase of the Rule 5 draft last offseason, the right-hander has pitched 46.2 innings with Triple-A Indianapolis. At Indy, he posted a 2.12 ERA, allowed 35 hits, 21 walks and fanned 41 batters.
Yajure had a rough outing on Thursday night when he allowed seven earned runs in two innings in the Pirates’ 9-0 loss to the Cubs. Yajure went 0-2 with an 8.40 ERA in 15 innings with the Pirates this year. The 23-year-old suffered a forearm injury that limited his 2021 season, but had a 3.40 ERA in 11 minor league starts this year.
