Pirates Recall Nick Yorke, Cam Sanders as September Call-Ups

The Pittsburgh Pirates are recalling infielder/outfielder Nick Yorke and right-handed reliever Cam Sanders as their September call-ups, according to the team’s transaction logs.
Yorke appeared in 11 games with the Pirates at the end of last season but has yet to get any big-league time this year. During his first big-league stint a year ago, Yorke slashed .216/.286/.378 with a pair of home runs, five RBI and two stolen bases.
In 103 games with Triple-A Indianapolis this season, the 23-year-old posted a .287/.348/.406 batting line with 21 doubles, three triples, seven home runs, 59 RBI and 17 stolen bases. In 24 games in August, Yorke hit .337 with eight doubles, a home run and 15 RBI.
The Pirates acquired Yorke from the Boston Red Sox at last year’s trade deadline for right-handed pitcher Quinn Priester. Yorke was selected by Boston in the first round of the 2020 draft.
Sanders appeared in five games for the Pirates earlier this season and allowed five runs on seven hits in five innings with four strikeouts and four walks. All five runs agaisnt him came in a 14-8 loss to the Cincinnati Reds on Aug. 10.
Sanders, who signed a minor-league deal with the Pirates in the offseason, totaled 38 appearances between Indianapolis and Double-A Altoona. Between the two levels, the right-hander went 4-2 with a 2.25 ERA and 59 strikeouts in 48 innings. He totaled 13 saves.
