Pirates Prospect Watch: Scott and Gorski Collect Three Hits Apiece

It wasn’t quite a full day down on the Pittsburgh Pirates’ farm as Triple-A Indianapolis was off on Tuesday.

One level lower in Double-A Altoona, Pirates prospects Connor Scott and Matt Gorski each collected three hits for the Curve with half of those six hits going for extra bases.

All three of the Pirates’ minor league affiliates in action on Tuesday were on the losing end of things, but there are still several prospects to highlight.

Here are the standouts.

Altoona (22-22)

LF Connor Scott

  • Game stats: 3 for 4, one triple, one double, one RBI, one run
  • Season stats: .202/.252/.349, five doubles, four triples, one home run, 20 RBIs, three steals, 30 games

1B Matt Gorski

  • Game stats: 3 for 4, one double, one run
  • Season stats: .257/.311/.404, five doubles, five home runs, 19 RBIs, seven steals, 36 games

Scott and Gorski combined four six of the eight hits for Altoona in their 10-3 loss to the Binghamton Rumble Ponies.

Pirates prospect Andres Alvarez connected on his fifth homer of the season, a solo shot in the ninth inning.

Greensboro (23-21)

3B Mike Jarvis

  • Game stats: 2 for 3, one RBI, two runs, one walk, one steal
  • Season stats: .231/.325/.500, seven doubles, two triples, eight home runs, 30 RBIs, 12 steals, 34 games

RHP Po-Yu Chen

  • Game stats: 5.0 innings, four hits, two runs, three walks, five strikeouts
  • Season stats: 1-3, 5.01 ERA, 23er/41.1ip, 43 hits, 13 walks, 41 strikeouts, nine appearances/eight starts

Chen looked good on the mound and Jarvis collected a pair of hits but Greensboro was defeated 7-5 by the Winston-Salem Dash.

Pirates prospect Abrahan Gutierrez was on base twice and drove in a pair of runs for the Grasshoppers.

Bradenton (24-22)

2B Termarr Johnson

  • Game stats: 1 for 2, one double, two walks
  • Season stats: .277/.417/.361, four doubles, one home run, 10 RBIs, one steal, 26 games

3B Jack Brannigan

  • Game stats: 1 for 3, one walk, one steal
  • Season stats:. .188/.381/.271, two triples, six steals, 16 games

Johnson continued his strong play of late with another solid game at the plate and Brannigan was on base twice but Bradenton was clobbered 15-0 by the Tampa Tarpons.

On the mound, Pirates prospect Joshua Loeschorn threw a pair of scoreless innings out of the bullpen with two strikeouts.
