Pirates Prospects, Greensboro grasshoppers

Perhaps a forgotten piece of the Joe Musgrove trade is Pittsburgh Pirates outfield prospect Hudson Head.

Head was one of five players acquired in the three-team swap two years ago after the Padres selected him in the third round of the 2019 MLB Draft.

The 22-year-old has been off to a nice start this season with High-A Greensboro and that continued on Friday night as he launched another home run.

Here are some of the standouts from Friday’s action in addition to Head.

Indianapolis (16-20)

RHP Osvaldo Bido

  • Game stats: 5.0 innings, four hits, no runs, no walks, four strikeouts
  • Season stats: 2-2, 3.68 ERA, 12er/29.1ip, 22 hits, 11 walks, 35 strikeouts, seven appearances/five starts

1B Malcom Nuñez

  • Game stats: 1 for 3, one home run, one RBI, one run
  • Season stats: .200/.256/.304, three doubles, three home runs, 17 RBIs, 30 games

Bido tossed five innings of shutout relief but Indianapolis fell 2-1 to the St. Paul Saints. Nunez was responsible for the only run for the Indians with his third homer of the season.

Outfielder Ryan Vilade went 1 for 2 and drew a pair of walks.

Altoona (14-15)

RHP Aaron Shortridge

  • Game stats: 6.0 innings, four hits, no runs, one walk, three strikeouts
  • Season stats: 2-2, 3.98 ERA, 14er/31.2ip, 29 hits, 11 walks, 21 strikeouts, seven appearances/six starts

RF Henry Davis

  • Game stats: 2 for 3, one run, two walks
  • Season stats: .313/.462/.687, five doubles, one triple, eight home runs, 17 RBIs, five steals, 23 games

Altoona walked-off the Akron RubberDucks 2-1 in 10 innings on Friday night. Shortridge was brilliant on the mound while Davis stayed red-hot at the plate.

Pirates prospect Liover Peguero doubled as he finished the night 2 for 5. Jacob Gonzalez also had two hits.

Greensboro (20-11)

LF Hudson Head

  • Game stats: 1 for 4, one home run, three RBIs, one run
  • Season stats: .271/.346/.500, six doubles, two triples, four home runs, 15 RBIs, three steals, 26 games

SS Maikol Escotto

  • Game stats: 2 for 4, two RBIs, one run
  • Season stats: .237/.291/.366, three doubles, three home runs, 15 RBIs, three steals, 27 games

Head hit his fourth homer of the season while Greensboro won their 20th game in their 8-6 win over the Jersey Shore BlueClaws. Escotto drove in a pair on two hits.

Anthony Solometo struck out six and was tagged with two earned runs in 4.2 innings.

Bradenton (18-13)

RHP Thomas Harrington

  • Game stats: 3.0 innings, one hit, no runs, no walks, four strikeouts
  • Season stats: 4-0, 3.25 ERA, 10er/27.2ip, 25 hits, eight walks, 28 strikeouts, six appearances/six starts

SS Jesus Castillo

  • Game stats: 2 for 4, one triple, one RBI, one hit by pitch
  • Season stats: .250/.431/.313, three doubles, one triple, 11 RBIs, four steals, 29 games

The Marauders were defeated by the Lakeland Flying Tigers 3-2 in 10 innings but Harrington was sharp in a start that was cut short by a rain delay. Castillo was on base three times and hit his first triple of the year.

Right-hander Blake Cederlind made his first rehab appearance and allowed two runs in one inning of relief.
