Pirates Preview: Bucs Try to Sweep San Francisco

Liover Peguero, Pittsburgh Pirates

The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the San Francisco Giants 3-1 on Tuesday night at Oracle Park to take the first two games of the series.

A trio of Pirates’ pitchers held San Francisco to two hits, and Joey Bart drove in the game-winning run in the eighth.

The Pirates (46-62), who have won seven of their last eight games, will try and complete the sweep of the Giants (54-54) in the series finale on Wednesday.

First pitch is set for 3:45 p.m. ET, and the game will be broadcast on SportsNet Pittsburgh MLB Network and 100.1FM & AM 1020.

Weather

Temperatures in the lower 60s and clouds overhead. Winds WSW at 11-13 mph.

RHP Mike Burrows (1-3, 4.15 ERA) Will Start for the Pirates

Burrows had the best start of his young career his last time on the mound, when he threw six-scoreless innings against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

In two starts since the break, Burrows has a 1.64 ERA (2er/11ip) with 11 strikeouts. He’s only allowed six hits during that stretch.

Over his last 10 appearances dating back to June 4, Burrows has a 3.30 ERA and has struck out 48 batters in 42.1 innings. He’s allowed two runs or fewer in eight of those 10 outings.

This will be his first start against the Giants.

RHP Logan Webb (9-8, 3.38 ERA) Will Start for the Giants

Webb was tagged for six runs on eight hits in four innings against the New York Mets in his last start on Friday.

The usually reliable right-hander has struggled of late. Over his last three starts, Webb has a 9.39 ERA. He had a 2.62 ERA through his first 19 starts on the year.

Despite his recent struggles, Webb is 14th in the National League in ERA and is tied for eighth among MLB starters with 144 strikeouts.

In three career starts against the Pirates, Webb is 1-1 with a 2.89 ERA.
