The Pittsburgh Pirates fell 4-3 to the St. Louis Cardinals on the rubber match of a three-game series on Thursday afternoon.

Mitch Keller pitched six innings for the seventh-straight game but allowed four runs and the Pirates’ offense was limited without the likes of Andrew McCutchen, Nick Gonzales and Connor Joe in the lineup.

The Pirates (32-36) will now start a three-game series with the Colorado Rockies (24-44) at Coors Field on Friday night.

First pitch is 8:40 ET and the game will be aired on Sportsnet Pittsburgh.

Weather

The Pittsburgh Pirates Have Yet to Announce a Starter

The expectation is that Luis Ortiz will either start the game or enter the game as a bulk reliever.

The Colorado Rockies Will Send Out RHP Ryan Feltner (1-5, 5.74 ERA)

Feltner has not gotten good results this year, but he’s coming off of a start in which he did not get charged with an earned run

On Saturday, the right-handed threw 5.1 innings and allowed four unearned runs. He yielded a pair of hits, walked one and struck out seven.

Prior to Saturday’s start, Feltner had been charged with 13 earned runs in 8.2 innings pitched over his last two outings.

Feltner took the loss against the Pirates at PNC Park in May after allowing five runs in 5.2 innings. In two career starts against Pittsburgh, he’s 0-1 with a 5.91 ERA.

Pirates Hitters vs. Feltner

  • Rowdy Tellez: 5 for 9, four doubles, two RBIs

  • Since he was recalled from Indianapolis, Jack Suwinski has three hits in 21 at-bats (.143) and has struck out 14 times in 25 plate appearances.
  • The Pirates are seeking their first road series win since taking three of four from the Cubs from May 16-19.
