Pittsburgh Pirates, Bryan Reynolds

The Pittsburgh Pirates held off a late charge from the Milwaukee Brewers for an 8-6 win at American Family Field on Monday night.

Bryan Reynolds had the first five-hit game of his career and Mitch Keller followed up his complete game with six-shutout innings and his first win against the Brewers.

On Tuesday, the Pirates (19-23) will go for their first series win against the Brewers (24-17) in Milwaukee since July 2022.

First pitch is set for 7:40 ET and the game will be broadcast on SportsNet Pittsburgh.

Weather

American Family Field has a roof, so weather will not be a factor this series.

The Pittsburgh Pirates Will Send Out RHP Quinn Priester (0-3, 3.86 ERA)

Priester had back-to-back strong starts for the Pirates but scuffled his last time on the mound against the Angels at PNC Park.

Against the Halos, Priester allowed five runs (three earned) on seven hits in 4.2 innings pitched with a pair of walks and only one strikeout

In his two previous starts, the right-hander was charged with two earned runs across 12 innings pitched.

Priester made one start against the Brewers last season and it came at American Family Field. He allowed three runs in four innings.

The Milwaukee Brewers Will Send Out RHP Joe Ross (1-4, 4.75 ERA)

Ross took the loss in his last start when facing the Royals on the road. In that game, the right-hander went five innings and allowed three runs.

Ross’ first season pitching in the big leagues has been a bag of mixed results, but he has done a pretty good job at providing some length and has worked at least five innings in each of his last four starts.

The Pirates went up against Ross in a 4-2 Pittsburgh win at PNC Park on Apr. 22. Ross held the Pirates to one run on an Andrew McCutchen leadoff home run.

Brewers Hitters vs. Priester

  • William Contreras: 1 for 3
  • Christian Yelich: 1 for 2, one double, one walk, one strikeout

Pirates Hitters vs. Ross

  • Andrew McCutchen: 5 for 15, two home runs, five RBIs, two walks, four strikeouts
  • Yasmani Grandal: 2 for 4, two walks
  • Bryan Reynolds: 1 for 4, one double, one walk
  • Oneil Cruz: 2 for 2, one double

Tidbits

  • Bryan Reynolds went 5 for 5 with a home run and two doubles in the win. It was his first game with more than three hits since a four-hit performance against the Yankees on Sep. 20, 2022.
  • Reynolds also picked up another outfield assist on Monday, giving him six on the season which leads all outfielders. Six assists sets a career-high for him.
  • The Pirates have hit 10 home runs over their last three games.
