Pirates Preview: Another Chance to Complete a Sweep

The Pittsburgh Pirates blanked the Minnesota Twins for the second-straight not, winning 4-0 on Saturday.



Rowdy Tellez hit a home run and drove in three runs for the Pirates (31-33). Luis Ortiz tossed 4.1 scoreless innings of relief.

The Pirates will attempt to complete the sweep against the Twins (33-31) on Sunday afternoon.

First pitch is 1:35 ET and the game will be aired on Sportsnet Pittsburgh.

The Pittsburgh Pirates Will Send Out RHP Jared Jones (4-5, 3.25 ERA)

Jones kicked off this homestand with an excellent start against the Dodgers.

Against Los Angeles, the rookie right-hander tossed six-shutout innings, allowed three hits, walked three and struck out six.

Jones is third among all rookies with 76 strikeouts and fourth in opponent average at .214. He leads rookies with eight quality starts through his first 12 outings.

This will be his first time facing the Twins.

The Minnesota Twins Will Send Out RHP Bailey Ober (5-4, 4.94 ERA)

Ober comes into his start against the Pirates having struggled of late.

Over his last four starts, the righty has a 7.58 ERA and opponents have compiled a .304/.378/.582 slash. He’s failed to work into the sixth inning in any of those outings.

In his seven starts prior to his current rough patch, Ober posted a stellar 2.16 ERA and held opponents to a .149 batting average and a .463 OPS.

This will be his first-career start against the Pirates.

Tidbits

  • This is the first time the Pirates have had back-to-back shutouts since a doubleheader against the Rockies in 2021.
  • The Pirates have shutout their opponents three times in their last five games, having also blanked the Dodgers on Tuesday.
  • Rowdy Tellez’s home run was his first since March 31 against the Marlins in Miami.
