Pirates Postgame: Pirates Let Phillies Hit Their Way To Series Sweep

Published

on

You just knew it wasn’t going to be a good day when Ke’Bryan Hayes was given the late scratch due to his knee. JT Brubaker made today’s start and the Phillies got to him early and often. Giving up a total of 12 hits in 4.1 innings pitched was not ideal, though we discuss how today’s game still leaves un encouraged. However, we have much different thoughts on Dillon Peters who gave up his 9th run in his last 12 innings pitched.

The offense once again came today from Kevin Newman. With his 3-hit performance he is now batting .306 since his IL return. This leads us to debate that upcoming trade deadline debate some more. Let’s not also forget how good Cal Mitchell, who had two more hits today, has been since his return to the majors.

We cannot complete a recent show without talking about this lineup and the self imposed futility that comes with it. Just how bad has Josh VanMeter been in July? That and more we talk in today’s Postgame Show.
