Vince Velasquez, Pittsburgh Pirates

The Pittsburgh Pirates placed Vince Velasquez back on the 15-day injured list on Sunday, a day after he was activated.

Velasquez again has a case of elbow inflammation. He was forced out of his start after two innings Saturday against the Mariners in Seattle because of discomfort in the elbow.

Right-hander Cody Bolton was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis to take Velasquez’s roster spot.

Velasquez also left his start on May 4 against the Tampa Bay Rays in St. Petersburg early because of elbow inflammation. He spent 22 days on the IL and made one rehab start for Indianapolis before being activated.

Signed as a free agent in the offseason, Velasquez is 4-4 with a 3.86 ERA in eight starts.

Bolton made his major-league debut on April 29 and has pitched in three games in relief for the Pirates this season, going 0-0 with a 4.50 ERA. At Indianapolis, he had a 1-1 record with one save and a 2.08 ERA in 13 relief appearances.
