Pittsburgh Pirates pitching prospect Luis Ortiz will begin the season in the minor leagues.

The right-hander was optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis on Tuesday along with reliever Yohan Ramirez.

Ortiz made four starts for the Pirates at the end of last season and was in consideration to begin this season in their rotation. The 24-year-old gave up seven runs in six innings over three Grapefruit League starts, though.

Baseball America ranks Ortiz as the Pirates’ fourth-best prospect.

The Pirates also reassigned left-hander Daniel Zamora, right-handers Cody Bolton and Carmen Mlodzinski, catcher Carter Bins, infielder Andres Alvarez and outfielder Chavez Young to their minor-league camp.

Mlodzinski is the Pirates’ No. 22 prospect according to Baseball America while Bolton is No. 23 and Alvarez is No. 30.

The Pirates have 40 players remaining in their spring training camp.
