Pirates OF Gregory Polanco Clears Waivers

Published

on

After a crazy few days of news regarding Pirates outfielder Gregory Polanco, sources have confirmed that the right fielder has cleared waivers after none of the other 29 Major League teams claimed him. He will remain on the Pirates’ active roster. The team is still on the hook for his remaining salary this season.

Polanco is not in the starting lineup tonight as the Pirates take on the Diamondbacks.

After several injuries and not living up to potential as of yet, many fans wonder if the Pirates will continue to trot him out in the outfield most days or if they bite the bullet and pay his termination fee and send him on his way. Polanco is batting a paltry .197 on the season with 11 home runs, although he does lead the team in stolen bases with 14. His OPS+ of 65 is well below league average and his bWAR is -1.6 for 2021

The ball is now in the Pirates’ court on what comes next.
