Pirates Farm System
Pirates Minor League Report: Sunday Slugging Surge
Power was the recurring theme amongst the Pirates’ minor leaguers on Sunday, with extra base hits aplenty from all four affiliates.
Triple-A Indianapolis defeated the Iowa Cubs 6-4 behind three-hit days from Alika Williams and Matt Gorski, as well as five innings of one-run ball from Domingo Germán.
The Altoona Curve trounced the Bowie Baysox 7-2 courtesy of another homer from Charles McAdoo, one from Carter Bins and a strong start by Po-Yu Chen.
The Greensboro Grasshoppers dropped a 12-9 track meet to the Hudson Valley Renegades, scoring five runs in the late innings to tie it before surrendering the decisive margin in the top of the ninth. Greensboro flashed their power despite the loss, with homers from Maikol Escotto, Shawn Ross, Jack Brannigan and Luke Brown.
Mike Burrows got roughed up in his second appearance since returning from Tommy John surgery, but that didn’t prevent the Bradenton Marauders from picking up a 6-3 win over the Lakeland Flying Tigers.
