Pirates Minor League Report: High-A No Match for WVU Product Reed
2023 Pirates’ fourth round pick Carlson Reed continues to show that High-A is no match for him, as the WVU product allowed just one run in six innings on Thursday night… raising his ERA to 0.7- in five starts since joining the Grasshoppers. Reed, who recently debuted on MLB Pipeline’s Top 30 Pirates prospects list, struck out six batters in Greensboro’s 3-1 win.
Triple-A Indianapolis defeated the Louisville Bats, with Matt Gorski coming a triple shy of the cycle. While his numbers aren’t eye-popping, his consistent bat and defensive versatility could soon earn Gorski a big league audition as a September call-up or injury replacement when needed.
Right-hander Thomas Harrington, the Pirates’ No. 5 prospect, got knocked around, allowing four runs in five innings, but also showed his ability to rack up strikeouts.
Altoona walked off the New Hampshire Fisher Cats 5-4 in ten innings. Termarr Johnson drew two walks, although one was intentional to set up a double play ball in the decisive tenth inning, while Nick Cimillo accounted for much of the offense with his 20th homer of the season.
Bradenton wore a 6-3 loss to round things out, although Esmerlyn Valdez had himself a day at the plate: the 20-year-old from the Dominican Republic hit a homer and walked three times.
