Pirates’ affiliates picked up two wins on Thursday, with young pitching prospects like Mike Burrows, Po-Yu Chen, Dominic Perachi and Carlson Reed flashing their ability at each level of the system.

Burrows turned in his best start of the season as he continues to work his way back from Tommy John surgery, striking out five batters in four innings of one-run ball for Triple-A Indianapolis. The Indians went on to win 7-2 against the Iowa Cubs, with Alika Williams finding his way on base five times.

Chen completed seven innings for the fourth time in his past five starts, allowing just one run on an efficient 95 pitches as he elicited ground ball outs more than strikeouts. Altoona’s bullpen couldn’t back him up, though, and the Curve went on to lose 5-4 in ten innings.

Jack Brannigan singled, doubled and homered—his second long ball in the past two days—for the Greensboro Grasshoppers, tallying four RBI and leading the charge in a 12-3 shellacking of the Asheville Tourists. Perachi, an eleventh round pick in 2022, struck out 11 batters and allowed just one hit as he dropped his ERA to 1.97 in 15 appearances for the Grasshoppers… in hitter-friendly Greensboro, no less.

Carlson Reed continued to shove for the Bradenton Marauders, punching out nine batters in five innings. The WVU Baseball product didn’t allow any earned runs in Bradenton’s 5-3 loss to the Lakeland Flying Tigers, although two runs did score following an error.
