Pirates Minor League Report: Anthony Solometo Bounces Back

Published

on

Pirates' left-handed pitching prospect Anthony Solometo shows off his funky wind-up.

Pirates’ affiliates picked up three wins to kick off the month of August, seeing an early impact from one of the organization’s key trade deadline pickups and a rebound appearance from top-ranked left-handed pitching prospect Anthony Solometo.

Triple-A Indianapolis pushed their winning streak to nine games, taking down the Toledo Mud Hens 7-3. Deadline acquisition Nick Yorke proved key in the win, doubling in two runs, scoring two more himself and flashing his defensive ability.

Altoona walked off the Richmond Flying Squirrels 5-4 in ten innings, riding four strong innings from 25-year-old Cuban pitcher Emmanuel Chapman, who continues to impress in his first minor league season. When Chapman signed with the Pirates last December, command was a massive issue, but he’s since walked just 20 batters in 53.1 innings this season while striking out 55.

The Greensboro Grasshoppers notched a strong all-around win over the Winston-Salem Dash, with Derek Diamond allowing one earned run in five innings and Alessandro Ercolani following that up with 3.2 scoreless frames in relief. P.J. Hilson managed four hits, while Termarr Johnson’s hot hitting carried over from July to August: the 2022 first round pick got on base three times.

Solometo turned in five shutout innings for the Marauders, continuing to work his way back to form in what has been a rocky season, but Bradenton lost 5-2 to the Palm Beach Cardinals,
