Earlier on Wednesday, Fangraphs released their top prospects list, and six Pirates made the cut. Of those six, four landed inside the top 100. Oneil Cruz (8) led the way, followed by Henry Davis (22), Roansy Contreras (41) and Liover Peguro (90). Quinn Priester (102) and Nick Gonzales (105) landed just outside the top 100, but both earned a 50 future value (FV) grade.
A 50 future value grade equates to an every day MLB player on the position player side, and a solid back-end starting pitcher or an above-average reliever. In addition to Priester and Gonzales, Contreras and Peguero also earned 50 FV grades. Oneil Cruz was labeled a 60 FV and Henry Davis was tabbed with a 55 FV. Basically, both project to have All-Star caliber ceilings at the Major League level.
With six prospects with 50 or higher future values, the Pirates are tied for third-most along with the Orioles, Giants and Rangers. The Rays (8) had the most, followed by the Guardians (7).
