Pirates’ Konnor Griffin “All Good” Following Hit By Pitch

Pirates’ 2024 first round pick Konnor Griffin gave Pittsburgh’s fanbase a collective heart attack on Saturday, July 12 when he exited the All-Star Futures Game after taking a 97 mile per hour sinker to the wrist during the fourth inning.
Per a tweet from his father Kevin, the head softball coach at Mississippi’s Bellhaven University, Konnor Griffin is “all good” despite the initial scare.
Griffin, alongside outfielder Esmerlyn Valdez, was one of two Pirates prospects to receive a nomination to the showcase game.
Still just 19 years old, Griffin skyrocketed up MLB Pipeline’s top prospect list (he checks in at No. 11 following their midseason update) after tearing through his minor league competition to start the season. Across 75 games so far between Single-A Bradenton and High-A Greensboro, Griffin compiled a .327/.400/.521 slash line with 16 doubles, 13 home runs and 41 stolen bases, a five tool prospect only just coming into his own.
The 6-foot-4, 225 pound prospect spends most of his time at shortstop, listed with a big league ETA of 2027 per MLB Pipeline. Should the second half of Griffin’s 2025 season proceed in similar fashion, he’ll likely suit up for Double-A Altoona before the end of his first full professional season.
