Pirates Flip Lefty Reliever Caleb Ferguson

The Pittsburgh Pirates traded left-handed reliever Caleb Ferguson to the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday, July 30, per a report from Jeff Passan of ESPN.
Sources confirmed the report to Pittsburgh Baseball Now.
In return, they’ll receive Mariners right-handed pitching prospect Jeter Martinez, a 19-year-old who’s posted a 6.18 ERA with 60 strikeouts in 62.2 innings for the Modesto Nuts, Seattle’s Single-A affiliate. MLB Pipeline ranked him as the Mariners’ No. 13 prospect. Seattle currently holds a one game lead on the third and final Wild Card spot in the American League’s playoff race.
Ferguson, 29, posted a 3.74 ERA with 34 strikeouts across 43.1 innings with the Pirates in 2025. The team signed him to a one-year deal worth $3 million in January.
This marks the Pirates’ second trade of the day, as they dealt platinum glove third baseman Ke’Bryan Hayes to the rival Cincinnati Reds. They’ll have another day to make trades before the deadline, which kicks in at 6 p.m. on Thursday, July 31.
