Pirates Draft Signings: Easton Carmichael, Jared Jones Headline Four More Deals

The Pittsburgh Pirates announced the signings of four more draft picks on Thursday, bringing their total to 16.

C Easton Carmichael (3rd round)

The Pirates took Carmichael with the 82nd pick out of the University of Oklahoma. He slashed .329/.398/.613 with 10 doubles, four triples, 17 home runs, 62 RBI and 14 stolen bases in 60 games as a junior and was named a First Team All-American by Perfect Game and College Baseball Foundation, a Second Team All-American by NCBWA and Third Team by Baseball America.

3B Brent Iredale (7th round)

A native of Australia, Iredale slashed .286/.450/.544 with 11 doubles, 14 home runs, 57 RBI and nine steals in 65 games with the Arkansas Razorbacks after transferring from New Mexico Junior College.

1B Jared Jones (9th round)

Jones, from LSU, was ranked as MLB Pipeline’s No. 101 prospect but fell to the Pirates with the 263rd pick. Jones hit 22 home runs and drove in 76 runs while hitting .323 with a 1.027 OPS and helped lead LSU to the College World Series. The right-handed slugger was named a 2025 First-Team All-American and 2025 Second-Team All-SEC.

RHP Dylan Mathiesen (13th round)

Mathiesen graduated from Montour High School, was named 2022 Pittsburgh Post Gazette 4A Player of the Year and began his career at California University of Pennsylvania. This past year, the 5-foot-10 right-hander 2-4 with a 5.07 ERA in 17 starts at Liberty University. He struck out 84 batters in 65.2 innings.

Non-Drafted Free Agent

The Pirates also announced the signing of RHP Treyson Peters from Western Kentucky University. He went 3-0 with a 4.73 ERA in 15 appearances/five starts during his senior season.

One player who doesn’t appear will sign with the Pirates is second round right-hander Angel Cervantes, who announced he will head to UCLA.
