The Pittsburgh Pirates claimed right-hander Edwin Uceta off waivers from the Detroit Tigers on Sunday and optioned him to Triple-A Indianapolis.

Uceta, 25, has pitched in the major leagues with the Los Angeles Dodgers (2021) and Arizona Diamondbacks (2022). In 24 career games, including one start, he is 0-3 with a 6.27 ERA.

Uceta worked 11 innings in eight appearances for the Tigers during Grapefruit League play in spring training. He allowed seven runs (six earned) on 13 hits while striking out 14 and walking four.

A native of the Dominican Republic, Uceta has a 28-16 career record and a 3.92 ERA in six minor-league seasons.

In a sign that JT Brubaker won’t be pitching for the Pirates anytime soon, the right-hander was transferred from the 15-day injured list to 60-day IL. Brubaker is sidelined by right elbow discomfort.

The Pirates’ 40-man roster is full.
